Day Two

Presentations:
In your groups:
Session One: Maori Achievement goal
Session Two: New Zealand Curriculum
Session Three: Personal Leadership Goals
Each person in the group to present material relevant to the topic of the session.
Important job:
  1. As you listen to the presentations in each session identify emerging themes/ideas/features about:
  2. Successes noting key factors that encouraged these successes.
  3. Impediments to success, noting what constituted obstacles or pitfalls
  4. Issues, noting unforeseen problems/challenges/unforeseen matters that emerged through the work

At the end of the three reporting sessions your group will summarise for the whole course the salient information about these successes/impediments/issues arising from the work
Finish off by addressing these final two points. Overall:

1. Which particular actions/events completed by any group member would you highlight as outstanding and worthy of others adopting?
2. Does the group feel that the NLC experience was sufficiently effective as a professional development tool.

If you already have a voicethread account, check your username and password so you can access your account

Once you have an account, go to the my account part of the page and change the MEMBER TYPE to an educator account. This will give you 50 free Voicethreads to play with and more flexibility with your threads.

Google Chrome or Firefox Web Browsers
When you are working in the cloud, you may find that Internet Explorer, the standard web browser is not able to cope with many of the features of the programmes you want to use. I recommend Firefox or Chrome as an alternative, and think that once you start using these, you won't want to use Explorer again. It just can't hack the pace any more.
What is a web browser? The web browser is arguably the most important piece of software on your computer. You spend much of your time online inside a browser. When you search, chat, email, shop, bank, read the news and watch videos online, you often do all this using a browser. So you need one that works and doesn't get met with "your browser doesn't support .... that is required to view this site ..."
Use the search terms Chrome or Firefox and follow the links.

February Hui

Steph's story about future problem solving - getting water from the well. The students first thought about the issue creatively and brainstormed ideas. secondly they thought critically to see what could and couldn't work. finally they thought ethically (caring) and looked at the social issues that were involved in the problem (women socialised at the well which they couldn't do by the pump which was male oriented). When all three types of thinking work together, you get 'Complex Thinking'.
Now if you relate this to our cycles of planning, gathering data and considering cultural capital and we have a nicely aligned Ka Hikitia model.
